He was 70 years old. He is the son of the late Donald and Maxine Hunter and predeceased by his brothers Donald and Stephen. Born in Leominster Ma on September 5, 1951, Dick graduated from Cushing Academy in 1970. After a brief stint at Nichols College, Dick made his wa

y to the Cape and never left. Chatham is where he meets the love of his life Susan Nowak. Together they called Chatham home and were married for 44 years, had two sons and multiple four-legged friends that were always by his side.
While figuring out what to do in life, Dick happened to take a Fire Science Class at Cape Cod Community College. He found his calling in the Fire Service and never looked back earning a degree in fire science. Dick was a dedicated member of the Chatham Fire Department for 36 years. During his career he achieved the rank of Deputy Chief and was a founding member of Chatham Firefighters Local 2712. Dick retired as Deputy Chief in 2011. In retirement his commitment to the fire department and the town of Chatham never wavered. Dick was an active member of the Airport commission for over 20 years and many other boards / committees in the town of Chatham. Dick was also an active member in the 22nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Company (reenacting). However, his greatest joy in retirement was being able to be active in the life of his grandchildren who affectionately called him Bampy.
Throughout his life Dick loved to travel and was an avid sports fan. Dick especially loved the Patriots and Red Sox and was fortunate to see them win many championships in his life. He was just as happy spending time with his sons attending games all over the country or sitting in the bleachers watching his grandkids play. He was a constant presence in his family’s life.
Dick is survived by his wife Susan, Sons Tim and Travis, Daughter in Law Sarah and his Grandchildren Rallston and Sadie. Dick is also survived by his brother David and many nieces and nephews.
